ALL ABOUT Lara & SOME TIPS
Either side of Antalya town centre lies two areas which both have a beach. To the west is Konyaalti and about 12 km to the east is the area known as Lara.
Just after Antalya's steep cliffs drop off, Lara's blue flag sandy beach begins. The area was initially the focal point for tourists coming to Antalya to enjoy the beach life here and has been established for over 20 years with many Hotels and Restaurants as well as other services you would expect in a holiday destination such as beach bars, rent-a-car shops and tourist companies selling excursions.
The beach bars offer sunbeds, umbrellas, snacks and drinks and occasionally there is even some entertainment.
There is also the opportunity to do watersports such as jet ski, water ski, parasailing and of course the big banana boat at various points along the beach. During the busy summer months lifeguards sit in their towers observing the safety of the beach fun participants.
There is a residential area just behind the beaches which have some bars and a few nightclubs but the more popular ones are a few kilometres west heading to the town in an area known as Dedeman. Otherwise most tourists drink and eat in their hotel.
Lara Beach has a long promenade which is great for cycling and stretches further east to an area known as Kundu which has many grand 5 star all inclusive hotels, many of which are replicas of famous buildings around the world such as Mardan Palace, Topkapi Palace and the Kremlin. It is for this reason that the area is sometimes called the ‘Las Vegas of Turkey'.
There is a large and very popular barbeque area at the start of that promenade and that sits beside a bus depot where you can take buses to every part of Antalya.
The area is also famous for the Lower Düden Waterfall which falls directly and quite spectacularly into the sea. Many tourists visit it each day and the council have recently made the area even more attractive by making beautiful park features to relax close to the waterfall and further along the cliff coastline.
There are also a few large shopping centres in the area with She Mall and Terra City being the largest shopping centre in Antalya. It was opened in 2011 and has more that 150 stores inside and 30 restaurants including a Starbucks. Some of Runtalya events are held here.
Overall Lara is a very popular area and has great amenities for both tourists and locals alike.
